No to Drug Abuse Football Match Yaounde

The Tendo’s Foundation , a local non-profit with one of its focus on health, recently hosted its annual “#NoToDrugsAbuse” football tournament in the Tongolo community of #Yaounde . This 7-day event, held from July 24th to July 30th, 2024, brought together youth teams from across the neighborhood to compete on the pitch while also receiving critical health services.

In addition to the football matches, the Tendos Foundation organized a series of free medical screenings and check-ups for the entire Tongolo community. Over the course of the week-long event, residents were able to access HIV testing, malaria rapid diagnostics, blood pressure monitoring, and basic physical exams – all provided at NO COST.

The medical outreach component was a key focus of this year’s “No to Drugs Abuse” competition. The Tendos Foundation recognized that many in the Tongolo community face barriers to regular healthcare, so integrating these services directly into the sports tournament allowed them to reach a wider population. Medical staff were on-site daily to conduct tests, provide counseling, and connect individuals to follow-up care as needed.

Alongside the athletic competitions and health screenings, the event featured educational workshops on the dangers of drug and substance abuse. The medical team led interactive sessions to equip youth with the knowledge and skills to make healthy choices and avoid the pitfalls of addiction. These sessions complemented the tournament’s overarching message of promoting positive lifestyles through sport.

The tournament culminated on July 30th with an exciting championship match that drew large crowds of spectators. The winning team was celebrated with trophies and prizes, but all participants were commended for their dedication and sportsmanship. In closing remarks, the Tendos Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Tongolo community and continuing this impactful annual event.

The 2024 “No to Drugs Abuse” football competition was a resounding success, seamlessly blending athletic competition, health services, and anti-drug education to create a holistic initiative that benefited youth and families throughout the Tongolo neighborhood.
